World Social Work Day 2025
This year’s theme for World Social Work Day – Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing – recognises the need for societies to strengthen and actively support respectful intergenerational solidarity for the enduring wellbeing of all.
AASW events are happening across Australia in March. Visit our World Social Work Day events page to register and join fellow social workers for a day of thought-provoking conversation and idea sharing.

New Social Work Focus
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Special Issue: Culture, Strength and Self-Determination in Social Work.
The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) honours the 17th anniversary of the National Apology. February 13 is the anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations, which was made in 2008 by then-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
We’d like to share Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voices in the new Social Work Focus.

AASW advocacy update
The AASW is committed to driving meaningful change through our advocacy, addressing key social issues and championing the vital role of social work in our communities.
We’re advocating for:
- National registration of social workers via NRAS
- NDIS Advocacy and Social Worker Recognition
- Call for Full Implementation of Family Violence Royal Commission Recommendation 209
… and more

Apology 20 Year Anniversary Statement
Reconciliation is vital for Australia and all Australians. At our recent international conference in November, the AASW welcomed Professor Tom Calma AO, an Aboriginal Elder and trailblazer in social justice, health equity, and Indigenous empowerment, as a keynote speaker. Professor Calma urged us to reaffirm our 2004 apology to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and deepen our engagement with these communities, reinforcing our commitment to truth-telling, reconciliation, and a just, inclusive society.
